Often Wanted

I often wanted a place, a space where I, a mother, could nap, read the papers, check mail, or simply weep in peace while my child played, slept, pranced around or drew either by herself or with other children and adults.

We have spaces and places for children--playschools, day care centres, after schools--and women (counselling and resource centres) but do we have a place that hosts mothers with children? I have often wanted to be outside my home with my child in a space where there are other children or adults who can engage my kid while I enjoy a hot cup of tea, cut my nails, compose a poem or write a letter. A space that is comforting, cosy, secure and where I can do very simple but necessary things for myself while having the luxury of having my child looked after within close proximity.

I first need to create such a space in my imagination, to articulate my ideas about such a space. Mothers with Children is a space that I want to create for myself and other mothers who long for time for themselves even as their children are close at hand. Join me mothers in visualizing and creating such a place.
